Before you can think of answering a tough question, you must be certain of the key issue. If not, you will be accused of not listening, one of the universal problems in human communications. In this keynote speech, Jerry Weissman shows your audience the fine art of active listening, one of the many techniques in his book In the Line of Fire: How to Handle Tough Questions...When it Counts and its companion DVD In the Line of Fire: An Interactive Guide to Handling Tough Questions.
Active listening includes:

Once you have identified the key issue in the question, you must handle your response effectively. The first step is to Buffer, a special form of paraphrase that strips out any hostility in the question, condenses the question and confirms the question with the asker. Once the answer is given, the presenter is then free to Topspin, a special technique to add value, offer a benefit, and state the message. In this keynote, Jerry provides the Buffer and Topspin techniques.
Both parts of this keynote speech include interactive exercises with the audience. It also includes illustrative video clips drawn from the Power Presentations Program and the DVD, In the Line of Fire: An Interactive Guide to Handling Tough Questions
