Lynn Whitfield is a highly accomplished, multi faceted, Emmy award winning and Golden Globe nominated actress.
Currently Lynn stars in the OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK original scripted drama series GREENLEAF about the unscrupulous world of the Greenleaf family and their sprawling Memphis megachurch. Whitfield plays the leading role of ‘Lady Mae Greenleaf’, the imperious Minister’s wife and power and money hungry matriarch of the family.
After her breakthrough as Josephine Baker, Whitfield had the recurring role in the ABC legal drama EQUAL JUSTICE, appearing opposite Joe Morton as well as recurring roles on BOSTON PUBLIC, WITHOUT A TRACE, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, HIT THE FLOOR, THE COSBY MYSTERIES and MISTRESSES.
Whitfield achieved wide recognition and won an Emmy for her title role in THE JOSEPHINE BAKER STORY. The HBO biopic required her to age from 18 to 68. In a highly publicized casting call, Whitfield was chosen over hundreds of women. After that, Whitfield was cast as a female lead opposite Martin Lawrence in the dark romantic comedy film A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE. The film grossed over $35 million against a budget of $8 million She starred opposite Danny Glover and Rosanna Arquette in the comedy film GONE FISHING, in the Chris Rock comedy film, HEAD OF STATE and Tyler Perry’s MADEA’S FAMILY REUNION. Lynn played the mother of Jurnee Smollett’s title character in the critically acclaimed independent drama EVE’S BAYOU. She can also be seen on THE WOMEN, REBOUND, MAMA, I WANT TO SING and Disney Channel films THE CHEETAH GIRLS and THE CHEETAH GIRLS 2 and appeared in several made for television movies, including A TRIUMPH OF THE HEART: THE RICKY BELL STORY, STOPIN’ AT THE SAVOY, TAKING THE HEAT, STATE OF EMERGENCY, SOPIE AND THE MOONHANGER, THE WEDDING & THE COLOR OF COURAGE.
Lynn is a mother of one and resides in Atlanta where she shoots GREENLEAF, loves traveling and is an antiques collector.
