Zack Kass on Who Wins and Who Loses in The Upcoming AI Entertainment Shakedown

AI is a hot topic in the entertainment industry and, as in many other sectors, the source of considerable anxiety around job replacement. In a recent interview for Deadline, Zack Kass, former head of Go-To Market at OpenAI, sees the technology as a positive, one offering creatives greater freedoms. He also adds that the vast majority of the jobs actually threatened by AI are in the knowledge sector, as humans still have the edge when it comes to creating art; in short, actors and artists have little to fear from it.

Kass also weighs in on how small studios and independent creators stand to benefit most from AI utilization in the film industry, with AI offering indie filmmakers a way to create products of similar value to large studios with a lower cost of entry, especially as regards VFX. Amateurs will have the ability to tell their stories on screen, ones far more diverse and compelling than the formulaic offerings of major Hollywood players.

And films aren’t the only art form that stand to benefit. Kass mentions that offline, in-person experiences can be enhanced via increased automation, such as concerts and other performances surging in popularity as major studios and their productions decline.
