Acting as an Agent/Consultant for business thought leaders, renowned authors and Hollywood celebrities on the lecture circuit as well as an educational consultant to corporate learning and development programs can be exciting and glamorous (think Entourage, only with less Ari, more gold and no drama) but it is also primarily a consultative sales position, and you will spend a majority of your time on the phone advising clients, cultivating relationships and closing deals. Proactive outreach in addition to occasional leads, and previous clients and prospects are provided.

Selling to corporations, including Fortune 1000 companies, trade associations and town halls, our agent/consultants are also responsible for overseeing all aspects of events, from contract to itinerary to payment. This is a base salary plus commission position and/or higher all commission compensation opportunity with very high earning potential.

This role requires a combination of proactive work with the ability to quickly react to unplanned circumstances with the occasional after hours emergency. This role also demands flexibility, patience and knowing the difference between “urgent” and “important.” Above all, our Director of Operations will be our “backbone” and keep us on track (plus away from the cliff).  The successful candidate will have a unique blend of being incredible with people and also using technology, process and follow-through to keep our fast-paced environment flowing at a rapid pace (while still delivering top quality experiences for all our stakeholders).

The duties and responsibilities of our Director of Operations are:

  • HR functions
    -Benefit administration
    -Culture Czar (we keep it fun at BigSpeak)
  • Technology
    -Advance current solutions
    -Identify/test new solutions
    -Implement new solutions under direction of EVP
  • Reporting
    -Annual reviews
  • Supervising/mentoring of all staff not in a sales role (currently 10, expected to be 20 within three years)
  • Drive Efficiency
    • We measure efficiency by:
      -Profit per team member
  • Liaise with leadership to make decisions for operational activities and set strategic goals
  • Plan and monitor the day-to-day running of business to ensure smooth progress
  • Supervise staff from different departments and provide constructive feedback
  • Evaluate the efficiency of business procedures according to organizational objectives and apply improvements
  • Manage procurement processes and coordinate material and resources allocation
  • Oversee customer support processes and organize them to enhance customer satisfaction
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets to promote profitability
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation
  • Manage relationships/agreements with external partners/vendors
  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Ensure that the company runs with legality and conformity to established regulations

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with business or social science degree preferred
  • 5+ years of management/Director level experience, supervising 20+ direct-reports
  • Effective organizational and time management skills (time management system)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (you will spend 95% of your time communicating with staff, partners and clients)
  • Highly organized and accurate with numbers, spelling, grammar and details
  • Team player with ability to work and adapt at a fast pace with sunny disposition
  • Knowledgeable of Fortune 1000 companies, business leaders and celebrities
  • Proven experience as Director of Operations or equivalent position
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Outstanding communication and people skills
  • Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
  • In depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. supply chain, finance, customer service etc.)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
  • Willing to work extra hours when necessary

BigSpeak, Inc., a 21 year old Santa Barbara based Speaker’s Bureau is seeking an intern for the 2016-2017 academic year.

We are looking for a driven individual who is willing to contribute to all aspects of the business while helping to promote our standard as #1 Business Speaker’s Bureau. An ideal candidate would be a motivated self-starter, who is able to manage and execute tasks ranging from office maintenance, speaker outreach, to interfacing with Fortune 1000 clients.
