Zack Kass on the Major Obstacles Facing AI Today
As interest and doubt continue to build surround the adoption of AI, we turn to the experts for their insights and predictions. As the former head of go-to-market at OpenAI, top keynote speaker Zack Kass is frequently asked for his insider’s perspective.
An article for Forbes shares the highlights of his presentation at the Precisely conference, where he addressed audiences on what speed bumps to expect as AI is integrated into business and daily life, specifically focused around adoption of AI in autonomous vehicles, which serve as the benchmark for wider AI trends.
In the case of self-driving cars, Kass identifies three challenges, which include loss of agency and control, disproportional fears, and a generally low tolerance threshold for mechanical failure.
Anxiety around loss of agency or control is especially relevant in the case of vehicles, as the ability to drive has long been associated with personal freedom. When it comes to outsized fears, Kass reminds us that people were initially too afraid to make use of elevators, but they have since become a background element of daily life. Perhaps most troublesome for AI adoption, then, is that while humans have a high tolerance for human failure they tend to expect the best from machines, and these high standards surround automation will present the greatest barrier to clear as the industry moves forward.
