Former President and Chief Executive Officer at Computer History Museum

Dan’l Lewin recently retired as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Computer History Museum (CHM), a nonprofit organization with a four-decade history exploring the world’s computing past, digital present, and future impact of technology on humanity. Prior to CHM, hired by then CEO Steve Ballmer, and later reporting to President Brad Smith Lewin led Microsoft’s efforts to resolve anti-trust issues with industry and work in applying technology for public good during a 17-year tenure. As a Corporate VP, his portfolio included establishing the company’s global startup and venture capital engagement model, its campaign and civic tech engagement efforts, affordable internet access initiatives, environmental sustainability work, and partnerships with leading research universities. Prior to Microsoft Lewin accrued 30-plus years of leadership experience in Silicon Valley with companies that include Apple, NeXT, Go Corporation, and Sony. Among others, Lewin has served on the boards of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, UI Labs, Advanced Energy Economy, and currently serves as a Board Director at Persistent Systems. He is also on the Advisory Council for the Department of Politics at Princeton University. Lewin holds an AB in politics from Princeton University.

Dan’l Lewin recently retired as the president and Chief Executive Officer of the Computer History Museum (CHM), a nonprofit organization with a four-decade history exploring the world’s computing past, digital present, and future impact of technology on humanity. Lewin currently focuses on launching a book, Steve Jobs in Exile, organizing and launching a family business and serving as an advisor and Board Director for several companies.

Prior to CHM, Lewin had a 17-year career at Microsoft. Hired by then CEO Steve Ballmer, and later reporting to President Brad Smith, Lewin led Microsoft’s Technical Diplomacy efforts to resolve anti-trust issues with industry and ongoing work in applying technology for public good. As a Corporate VP, his portfolio included establishing the company’s global startup and venture capital engagement model, its campaign and civic tech engagement efforts, affordable internet access initiatives, environmental sustainability work, and partnerships with leading research universities.

Prior to Microsoft Lewin accrued 30-plus years of leadership experience in Silicon Valley. Hired by Steve Jobs, he led the initial launch of the Macintosh to higher education for Apple Computer, Inc, was a co-founder of NeXT, Inc, and led sales and marketing for GO Corporation. Lewin also served as CEO of Aurigin Systems, Inc., a company that pioneered the market for Intellectual Property Asset Management, bringing investors, corporate, academic, and civic leaders together to advance emerging technology, digital transformation, and sustainability initiatives. Lewin has helped organizations build long-term competitive positioning, guided strategy, and governance to foster organization growth with effective partnering, technology, tools, and processes for scalability, financial viability, and strategic goal achievements. He has developed ground-breaking approaches to extend technology reach and awareness to millions of individuals, businesses, and organizations, and created new technology-based business models, partner ecosystems, and customer solutions, empowering individuals, and organizations with significant advantage.

Lewin has also served on the boards of the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, UI Labs, Advanced Energy Economy, World Business Chicago and currently serves as a Board Director at Persistent Systems Inc. and xMentium. He is also on the Advisory Council for the Department of Politics at Princeton University. Lewin holds an AB in politics from Princeton University.
