About Keynote Speaker David Drury

David Drury is a strategy and teamwork expert, blackjack coach, and author of The God Card, a forthcoming memoir about his time spent as the Most Notorious Card Counter in America. In 2005 David was an out-of-work copywriter, and by 2011 he had forged himself into the winningest member of the successful and equally infamous Churchteam, featured in the 2011 award-winning documentary Holy Rollers: The True Story of Card Counting Christians. David crisscrossed the country, taking upwards of $1 million from casinos using legal strategies.

After getting kicked out of and/or trespassed from every casino in Las Vegas, David returned to his life as a creative writer. As an instructor, he now leads classes on card counting and blackjack strategy at Blackjack Apprenticeship “bootcamps,” where he teaches the practices of patience, observation, strategic thinking, and teamwork–skills. He also brings his keynote presentations to audiences of all sizes.

As a writer, his fiction has appeared on National Public Radio, in Best American Nonrequired Reading (2003, 2019), Best Christian Short Stories, ZYZZYVA, Wigleaf, Southeast Review, and elsewhere. His nonfiction has appeared on CNN, Huffington Post, and Paste Magazine among others. He has also served as an ad writer and brand strategist.

A musician in his free time, David and his band Tennis Pro were featured in the 2014 comedy Big in Japan, shot on location in Tokyo, Japan.

David earned a BA in English Literature from California State University-East Bay and a Master in Christian Studies from Regent College, University of British Columbia.
