Josh Wardle is a technology speaker, artist, accidental entrepreneur, and creator of the viral internet game Wordle. When Josh released Wordle in Oct. 2021, it quickly became a viral sensation. In three months, Wordle went from 90 daily users to 10 million and was featured on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
In 2022, Josh sold the game to the New York Times for a seven-figure sum and was named to Time magazine’s list of ‘The 100 Most Influential People of 2022.’
Born in South Wales, Josh earned a degree in Media Arts from the University of London and an MFA from the University of Oregon. Before creating Wordle, Josh worked as a product manager at Reddit where he created two popular collaborative games, The Button and Place.
Josh currently works as a software engineer at the Brooklyn art collective MSCHF (pronounced “mischief”). MSCHF produces a wide range of artworks and products, ranging from browser plugins to sneakers, such as Lil Nas X’s ‘Satan shoes.
Josh isn’t the only achiever in the Wardle family. His brother Tim Wardle directed the 2018 film Three Identical Strangers, which won the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Storytelling at Sundance.
