About Keynote Speaker Joanne Martin

Joanne Martin has recently created JLM Consulting, LLC and has developed a collaboration with Vicinage, LLC as a CISO-in-Residence, where she will contract to provide ‘CISO as a Service’ expertise to Vicinage clients. Recognized professionally for her leadership in technology and people development, she is an inspirational speaker and a compelling advisor to senior executives. Throughout her career, Dr. Martin has been sought for her ability to understand the business benefits of emerging technology and to communicate them effectively to diverse audiences.

She has had more than 30 years of progressively responsible technical and business roles at IBM, culminating in her role as IBM’s CISO, and VP for IT Risk. In this role, she was responsible for defining and maintaining the vision, strategy, and programs that ensured IBM’s information assets were adequately protected. Her organization developed policy and processes to reduce IT risks globally, managed and responded to incidents, established standards, and guided the implementation of technology to support the enterprise security mission. Dr. Martin is on the National Advisory Board of the CISO Coalition, and was a founding member of the Security 50.

Technical leadership roles in high performance computing and online commerce led to an IBM Distinguished Engineer appointment in 2004. Her business executive positions have spanned diverse areas that include Application and Infrastructure Services, IBM’s Technical Strategy, global IBM technical community development, as well as Security and Risk.

Dr. Martin’s talents and achievements have been recognized in the community external to IBM in various ways. She was named by Working Mother magazine as one of the 25 most influential working mothers for 1998 and was elected to the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 2012. Women in Technology

I admire Joanne’s ability to move between business and technical audiences, and communicate clearly on multiple levels. Today’s CISO needs to lead with business risk analysis, understand what is critical to the business and provide pragmatic strategies that are based on sound technical and financial judgement.
