Patrick McGinnis is a venture capitalist, serial entrepreneur, author and global keynote speaker.  He is the managing partner and founder of Dirigio Advisors, which provides strategic advice to investors and businesses operating in Latin America and other emerging markets. Dirigio Advisors has worked with leading global companies such as The Resource Group, World Bank and Centria.

In his new book, The 10% Entrepreneur (Portfolio, April 12, 2016), McGinnis explains how to have the stability of a day job with the excitement of a startup – all of the benefits of entrepreneurship with none of the pitfalls. He shows readers that by investing just 10 percent of their time and resources they can become an entrepreneur without losing a steady paycheck.

His insights on entrepreneurship and venture capitalism have been featured in top outlets like Forbes.com, The Huffington Post, Boston Magazine and Business Insider.

McGinnis is a frequent speaker on the topics of entrepreneurship, venture capital, private equity and emerging markets investing, and has spoken at events such as Red Innova, Start-Up Chile, Angel Hack Santiago, the Latin America Tech Meetup, The Americas Society/Council of the Americas, Campus Party Mexico, Born Global Medellin, Start-Up Weekend NYC, the NYU Private Equity Conference and the Columbia University Latin America Business Association Conference.  His is also a speaker in the U.S. State Department Speakers Program and has spoken about entrepreneurship and social ventures in Buenos Aires.

McGinnis holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and French.

He is credited by Boston Magazine with coining the term “FOMO” or “fear of missing out,” a term made popular by millennials and digital junkies, that was added to the Oxford Dictionary in 2013.
