About Speaker Alex Sheen…

Alex Sheen is a four-time TEDx speaker and the Founder of because I said I would, an international social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. Sparked by a tragedy in his life, Alex created a concept called the Promise Card and began mailing cards to anyone who requested them at no cost. Since 2012, over 9.81 MILLION Promise Cards have been distributed to over 153 countries. In 2013, Alex left his Corporate Strategy Lead position at a leading software company to dedicate himself entirely to the nonprofit.

Why Book Alex Sheen?

Alex is a four-time TEDx speaker who has spoken at over 527 events since 2013, across a variety of audiences and industries. Alex is a talented and energetic storyteller, and the true stories he tells have moved thousands to make promises to better themselves, their families, their schools and their communities. His success is in preparation: Alex and his team prepare thoroughly for each event, from booking travel to understanding clients’ event themes and session goals. Alex then delivers an inspiring and ovation-worthy keynote. Afterwards, many audience members might think to themselves “I never heard of Alex Sheen until today. Where has this guy been all my life?” And that kind of audience reaction is what can make your event truly memorable.

Alex is the author of the upcoming book “because I said I would.” that is due for release in January 2019. Alex’s unique perspective on accountability, commitment and self-control developed both from his responsibilities in leading a global effort about keeping promises and his personal experience fulfilling his own promises.

Alex’s personal promises include:
• Walking 245 miles across the entire state of Ohio in under 10 days to fulfill a promise to the three Cleveland women
who were held captive for 10 years.
• Volunteering at 52 different nonprofit organizations in a single year.
• Promising children with cancer trips to Disneyland and personally delivering 100 tickets.

Alex’s work has been featured on CNN, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, TODAY Show, Good Morning America, NPR, Fox News, Los Angeles Times, CBS Nightly News and many other programs. He has been featured on the cover of Spirit Magazine and honored as a Steve Harvey “Harvey’s Hero”.

Alex’s efforts in social media have been featured in BuzzFeed’s annual “Most Important Viral Videos” and his viral posts have made the #1 spot on the front page of Reddit.com over 10 times.

As a nationally respected thought-leader who has been featured at multiple TEDx conferences, Alex has spoken at over 527 events since 2013.

  • From top to bottom, our staff have because I said I would cards taped, tacked and displayed in cubicles and offices to showcase how we have made and kept commitments. We have Alex to thank for that.

  • Very energizing session. Really compelling stuff around the power of a promise. I can’t commend both the performance he has just given and indeed the work he is doing on the philanthropic agenda enough. Absolutely fantastic. Really great response from the participants and I think it has really made them think.

    Andy Stafford

  • Alex shared his story with our audience of over 6,500 critical care nurses with passionate delivery. His message really resonated with our community and the opening general session was one of our highest rated ever. It truly set the stage for a terrific conference. "Life of a Promise" Workshop

Do you have content needs beyond a keynote speech? Alex can also lead leadership workshops at your event.

In his “Life of a Promise” workshop, Alex dives deeper into themes explored during his keynote.

It’s not about making a better employee. It’s not about making a better manager. It’s about making a better human.

As one of the foremost expert on promises, Alex combines evidence-based and peer-reviewed research with riveting stories and collaborative activities. This leadership workshop is an interactive and thought-provoking experience designed to give individuals the tools to be accountable in their personal lives, by learning how promises are made, kept or broken, and, most importantly, why.

Alex has created a program that builds individuals who lead by example. Our work isn’t about profit margins, products and quotas. This is a different type of experience. This leadership workshop is an interactive and thought-provoking exercise designed to give individuals the tools to be accountable in their personal lives.
