Finding Growth Opportunities in Times of Uncertainty

Now that the CDC has upgraded our risk level to the medium risk category and social distancing has become a thing, how will this impact your life and speaking events? For many of our speakers, Force Majeure applies for postponed or cancelled events. But there’s more to life than just keynote speaking.

So, we wanted to highlight a few words of wisdom from keynote speakers on how to handle the crisis and even to find opportunities to grow.

Stay grateful and optimistic.

Peter Diamandis, futurist and international pioneer in the fields of innovation, recently shared his experience on his blog “Fear vs. Reality – coronavirus.” Peter touched on some pertinent facts and data about COVID-19 and expressed his gratitude for the global cooperation from doctors, scientists and public health officials. Especially their sharing of clinical data and research. You can read the full article here

Give love, and focus on what you can control.

Ryan Estis is a consultant, and former chief strategy officer for the McCann Worldgroup advertising agency NAS. He recently wrote on his blog about the cancellations to some of his speaking opportunities. Rather than adding to the stress many are facing, he is trying to find opportunities inside the challenge. Ryan suggests focusing on what you can control. Provide alternative support to loved ones who need it. Leverage downtime to create new routines that boost creativity and think of ways you can improve your business in the long term. Read more about Ryan’s thoughts on his blog.

Build new habits.

Barb Stegemann, author and CEO of 7 Virtues, shared on Instagram her feelings about the current status saying: “I know it is tough, but staying home is crucial for us all to work together to flatten the curve of COVID-19.” She suggests doing some soul searching, building new habits and taking “this time to do all the things you have dreamed of but never had the time.”

Serve others.

Not all of our speakers are going public with their ideas, but in the past some have shared some valuable words of wisdom that are applicable to tough times. Margaret Wheatley writes, teaches and speaks about how we can use our power and influence to willingly step forward to serve during troubling times. Margaret said, “In these troubled, uncertain times, we don’t need more command and control; we need better means to engage everyone’s intelligence in solving challenges and crises as they arise.”
